Subspecialist in pediatric nephrology
Prim. M.Sc. sc. Đurđica Košuljandić, MD. graduated from the Rijeka Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka in 1983.
She completed her specialization training in pediatrics at the Children’s Diseases Clinic KBC Split and at the Children’s Diseases Clinic KBC Zagreb. She passed the specialist exam in pediatrics in 1994. After completing the education and passing the subspecialist exam in pediatric nephrology since 2008. becomes a specialist in a narrow specialty – pediatric nephrology. By decision of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia from 2014. acquires the title primarius.
She gained clinical experience working as a pediatric specialist and subspecialist in pediatric nephrology at the Clinic for Children’s Diseases, KBC Split in the Clinical Department of Pediatric Nephrology and Gastroenterology with Hepatology (from November 2, 1989 to August 31, 2014). From 2014, she worked at the Pediatric Clinic of KBC Rijeka, in the Department of Gastroenterology with Hepatology, Endocrinology and Nephrology at the post of specialist in the narrow specialty – pediatric nephrology.
An area of special interest are the methods of presentation and diagnosis of congenital anomalies and diseases of the urinary system in children, with special reference to those that are safe for children in order to avoid ionizing radiation. She has many years of experience dealing with conventional ultrasound examinations from an early age, and in general diagnostics of children with complex anomalies of the urinary system. She completed the course “An update in imaging of vesicoureteric reflux symposium & 2nd international school of echo-enhanced voiding urosonography” (University Clinical Center Ljubljana, 2012, and the course “Ultrasound diagnosis of vesicoureteral reflux in children with practical training in contrast voiding urosonography” (Poliklinika Helena, Zagreb, 2018). Use the acquired knowledge and skills in everyday practice, performing ultrasound examinations. stography (ceVUS/kMUS) in children with vesicoureteral reflux.
Since 2000, she has been dealing with urinary disorders in children, acquiring initial knowledge in the field of urodynamic studies (University Clinical Center Ljubljana, University Hospital of Olomouc, Cabinet for Urodynamics and Urinary Disorders, KDB Zagreb). In 2004, she officially founded the Laboratory for Urodynamics and the Outpatient Clinic for Urinary Disorders at the Children’s Disease Clinic in Split, which she was the head of until 2014. During this period, she actively conducted staff education, ongoing training for parents, and colleagues from other centers. Under the auspices of the Croatian Society for Preventive and Social Pediatrics during 2010. holds lectures “Disorders of micturition in children – diagnostic processing and appropriate treatment” in Split, Zadar and Dubrovnik. Awareness of urinary disorders is raised by holding forums organized by the Society “Our Children” Split, and through other public media, which continues at the new workplace in Rijeka.
At the same time, she continuously improves his professional knowledge in the field of urinary disorders through education at Bambino Gesu Childrens Hospital, IRCCS, Rome Italy, 2014, and by attending continuing education courses (ESPU Symposium on Incontinence and Elimination Disorders in Children, Lyon, France; State of the Art Educational Course in Enuresis treatment and Continence Care, 2010 Gdansk, Poland; ICCS/ERIC/BAPU Joint Congress, 2012, London, Congress International Children’s Continence Society and the course “Urodynamics and urotherapy” Rome, 2018).
As part of the 11th Congress of Pediatricians in Opatija in 2016, she participated as one of the lecturers in the Symposium “Primary nocturnal enuresis – where are we today in diagnosis and therapy?”, and as part of the New Challenges in Disease Prevention course, in 2019 she held the workshop “Rational approach to nocturnal enuresis in children”. In the work of the 38th Croatian Spring Pediatric School, 2022, she participated with the topic “Non-invasive diagnostic assessment of urinary disorders in children”.
She obtained the title of Master of Medical Sciences in 2011. at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Rijeka after defending a thesis entitled “Functional diagnosis of hydronephrosis in children”, with the application of complementary functional diagnostic methods in the assessment of hydronephrosis in children, with a special focus on diuretic ultrasonography.
She collaborated on the project “Pathobiochemistry of glycosphingolipid antigens” (Head: Prof. Anita Markotić, Ph.D., from September 22, 2011 to November 1, 2013).
She also participated in a three-year study with Columbia University (Prof. Simone Sanna-Cherci, Prof. Gharavi AG). Part of that study resulted in the work “Mutations in DSTYK and Dominant Urinary Tract malformations”, which was published in The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) in 2013.
Since 2003 until 2014, she was elected to the associate title of title assistant in the Department of Pediatrics for the scientific field of biomedicine and health, field of clinical medical science, branch of Pediatrics of the Faculty of Medicine in Split. Since 2014
She has published several scientific papers in internationally indexed publications, as well as numerous summaries of papers from various congresses and symposia (domestic, international, European and world).
She actively participated in regional meetings of pediatricians in Dalmatia, as well as professional meetings of pediatricians in Primorje, Istria and Lika, in congresses of the Croatian Pediatric Society, professional meetings of the Croatian Society of Pediatric Nephrology, as well as in international scientific gatherings and congresses (among others, the ESPN Congress in Cavtat, 2011, the IPNA Congress in Shanghai in 2013, and the ESPN Congress in Glasgow in 2017 and Ljubljana in 2022 .g.) where he permanently improves his professional knowledge.
She is a member of the following professional associations: Croatian Medical Association, Croatian Medical Chamber, Croatian Pediatric Society, Croatian Pediatric Nephrology Society (as a member of the Board of Directors), and the European Society of Pediatric Nephrology. Since 2019, she has been a member of the Croatian-Hungarian Paediatricians Group for urinary incontinence in children.
In 1983, she won the university award for the best professional scientific paper at the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka.
In 2003/2004. she held the position of president of the Split branch of the Croatian Perinatal Fund. From 2013 to 2014, she was vice-president of the Croatian Pediatric Society – Split Branch.
